Time planning for your backup
More and more programs have a built-in timer (scheduler). The paradoxical result: more and more programs need to be simultaneously held in memory by the operating system, only to be used once a day for a certain automated program action. In practice, this is a reason for plenty of chaos in the user login and is not at all helpful for system stability and speed!
Z-DBackup deliberately omits a built-in function for timing and relies on its modular concept for automation. For many backup tasks, you need an option to start the backup without anyone being logged on to the system, because the work should be done automatically without any intervention. The data backup can be easily automated with the additional module Z-Cron. The combination with Z-Cron allows a scheduled or automated tape backup with Z-DBackup, even if no user is logged on to the system.
You can also use any other scheduler of your choice, of course.
Scheduled Backups with Z-DBackup und Z-Cron
The add-on module Z-Cron makes sure that the Backup Sets are called and processed completely autonomously at predefined times, even if no user is logged on to the system. You can access the scheduling settings for a selected Backup Set by clicking on the "Schedule" button in Z-DBackup's main window
A dialog window is then shown which lets you specify at which times the backup should be run automatically, e.g. daily or weekly.
The Z-Cron Scheduler can also be installed as a system service on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP as well as Windows Server
2016, 2012 (R2), SBS, 2008(R2) and 2003.
This allows for completely automated scheduled backup with Z-DBackup, even if no user is logged in.
Scheduled Backups with the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler
Z-DBackup contains a built-in interface to the Microsoft Windows Task Scheduler. This is a tool that is automatically installed with Microsoft Windows from Windows 98 upwards and allows you to schedule your backup jobs without any additional software (it is, however, not as versatile as Z-Cron). Z-DBackup provides a convenient wizard to configure the Task Scheduler, so that no knowledge about the command-line parameters are needed.
